Tom Ozimek
Brevard Zoo’s latest addition, a male giraffe calf born on March 17, took its first steps in a video shared to the zoo’s Facebook page. The calf, which has yet to be named, weighs 158 pounds and measures 6’3.5" tall and was born to 16-year-old Milenna and 18-year-old Rafiki, local media reported. The calf and his mother will remain behind the scenes for a number of weeks before joining the public viewing area. Brevard Zoo shared a clip of the calf’s first steps to Facebook on Tuesday, March 20. The video had earned over 12,000 views at the time of writing. In an earlier post on Monday, March 19, the zoo shared a video of the birth of the calf. That video currently has over 120,000 views.
