Z Crew - The Early Years / Wheat Harvest 1994 (Part 1)

1994 begins in a rough way. My grandpa, Elvin Hancock, passed away the day we left for harvest this year. He played a huge part in both of our lives. We left home at 5:30. He died at 6:30. It was almost as though he knew. He was the man who taught me how to drive combine. He was the man that encouraged me to do things I didn’t think I could do. He was my grandpa and I dearly loved him. He was also the man who hired an 18 year old Jim the summer of 1975. The beginnings of Zeorian Harvesting. We didn’t know he had passed away until we arrived in Snyder, Oklahoma. No cell phones then. So, we were alerted to contact home by the local police. The girls and I immediately turned around and headed back home. Harvest began for the rest of the crew while we were away. According to my calendar, we had a lot of good cutting days and very few rain delays during the month of June. Part 1 of 1994 ends in Norton, Kansas.
