Designed in 1962 by Essendon AFL footballer and architect Jack Clarke for his structural engineer, the Mid-Century home showed its age. Parts of the structure were rotting, and the materials weren't of good quality and reached the end of their life. However, the original house's planning, natural light, and character are what Mid-Century Modern enthusiasts Reece and Laura fell in love with.
The challenge for architect Antony Martin of MRTN Architects was bringing the home up to today's standards while maintaining the character and charm of the Mid-Century style. Antony analysed the house very closely, identifying the strong features, what could be enhanced to suit contemporary living, and what parts needed to be replaced.
