Starting Calligraphy - Placement

0 Followed
Before even picking up a pen to write with, there are three things you need to familiarise yourself with, Posture, Placement and Position.
Where we sit, in relation the desk and writing sheet, is of critical importance to calligraphy practise.
The angle of the practitioner to the edge of the desk, the angle of the paper (if learning Copperplate or Spencerian Script, or any form of Calligraphy for that matter) and the distance from the practitioner to the writing sheet all assist with writing comfortably.
This video looks at the relationship of the edge of the desk to the angle of the paper and the practitioner.
Rotating both paper and/or practitioner in a clockwise and/or anticlockwise direction allows one to find a comfortable combination of angles to make practising calligraphy more enjoyable, but more importantly, less stressful on the neck, shoulders and back. The video is suitable for both right-handers and left-handers.
This is two in a series of three, combine them all to assist you and really enjoying learning calligraphy.
