Its aim is to enable reliable rail freight services throughout the country and support the modal shift to rail. Namely, 16% of the immense Indian rail network (the world's fourth-largest!), encompasses the so-called Golden Quadrilateral, which connects the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. As these routes are of vital importance to the Indian economy, carrying more than 50% of the total passenger and freight traffic, the idea of the Ministry of Railways with the DFC‘s is to construct six high capacity, high-speed corridors along the Golden Quadrilateral and its diagonals. DFCs will be assigned with all existing freight traffic for which DFC‘s will provide the shortest and fastest route. Thus, Indian Railways will have an incentive to transfer its existing traffic to the DFC as it will provide substantive savings in the form of fuel consumption and rapid rolling stock turnaround. Railways Explained team thinks that the DFCs will be a big boost for the Indian economy, at first, through the initial boost of the construction market and rail-related industry, and later, after completion, through an efficient transportation service throughout India. What do you think about the long-term effects of DFCs - tell us in the comments below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special thanks to our Patrons: David Brandon, Brendan McKeon, Linda Vainomae-Hoffmann, Andrew Saffrey, Myron York, Gerald Brady, Tim McKeoun, August Bigelow, Bill, Sergii Getman, Andebian, Raka Sidik, Jonas Christen, Duikboot, Nathan Walls, Marcelli, and Phillipe Branco! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits: - If you enjoyed this video, SHARE it with your rail-loving friends to help us raise our community, and of course, leave your opinion in the COMMENT section and hit the LIKE button. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ► Stay connected with us on social media: - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RailwaysExpl... - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/railways_ex... - Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/rail... #India #Railways #DFC
