The Supreme Court ruled Monday in favor of former high school football coach Joe Kennedy, who was suspended—and later fired—for kneeling and praying on the field after games. The court ruled 6–3 in his favor, saying his actions were protected by the First Amendment. Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote the majority opinion, saying in part, “The Constitution and the best of our traditions counsel mutual respect and tolerance, not censorship and suppression, for religious and nonreligious views alike.” Coach Kennedy said in a statement “All I’ve ever wanted was to be back on the field with my guys. I thank God for answering our prayers and sustaining my family through this long battle.”
