NY State Comptroller Says He's Stopped $24M in Tax Refunds

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli announced this week that his department has blocked $24 million in fraudulent or questionable personal income tax refunds, AP reported. DiNapoli said many taxpayers in question claimed refundable credits based on incorrect information For example, giving the wrong number of dependents or undisclosed income. Auditors also stopped $3.3 million in false tax filings made by tax preparers.
