White House Defends Comments After FBI Raid on Lawyer

During a rambunctious press briefing on April 10, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders had to calm the reporters down several times. It was the first briefing by the administration after an FBI raid on the offices of the president’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, in New York the day prior. Reporters questioned President Donald Trump’s comments following the raid, in which he called it a witch hunt and said it was “an attack on our country.” Sanders replied: “I think that the President has been clear that he thinks that this has gone too far. And beyond that, I don’t have anything to add, but I’d refer you back to the president’s comments.” She fielded another question about Cohen and the raid being called a “witch hunt.” “The president certainly has been very clear about what his position is when it comes to matters of collusion, and that’s what his reference is,” Sanders said. “He thinks this entire thing is a witch hunt. I think we’ve spoken about this at length, ad nauseam.” Later, reporter April Ryan asked Sanders: “With all of this turmoil, particularly this last week, has the president at any time thought about stepping down before or now?” “No. And I think that’s an absolutely ridiculous question,” Sanders replied.
