Guilty Pleas Given After Exposure of Long Island Dog Fighting Ring

Henry Yan
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced guilty pleas from 3 suspects involved in dogfighting. Defendants: Richard Davis, 34 Taikeem Wheeler, 27 Martin Newkirk, 49 The 3 Long Island residents were arrested last fall. They are accused of breeding and grooming American Pit Bulls for dog fighting. At the time of arrest, police seized 36 dogs, over half of which were puppies. Most of the dogs rescued had bite wounds, that appeared to be from dog fights. None appeared to have been treated by a veterinarian before being rescued. They also seized numerous dogfighting training materials. Many of the pit bulls rescued were of the RedBoy, Jeep, and Beast bloodlines. These bloodlines are well known to be favored by dogfighters because of their aggressiveness. Most of the dogs have been placed into new homes by the ASPCA. “Dog fighting is a barbaric, despicable, and illegal form of animal abuse That both tortures animals and endangers public safety.” –State Attorney General Schneiderman He said the judge will hand them a sentence in June. Schneiderman urged all New Yorkers to report such animal cruelty to his office. NTDTV Henry Yan New York News
