New York Assemblyman Seeking Homes for His Office Cats–And Their Kittens

Holly Kellum
A New York state assemblyman representing Besonhurst, Brooklyn, is trying to find homes for his two office cats and some kittens. Assemblyman William Colton said that a female feline had been living outside his office, and last June she gave birth. “We actually had four kittens that were born in the backyard of our office. After about two months, the mother cat disappeared. We don't know what happened to her,” Colton said. However, her four kittens remained. Colton and his staff would come in on weekends to care for them, but he decided they should have permanent homes. He had them checked out by the vet to make sure they were healthy, and that's when he discovered there were more than four—one of them was pregnant. “And the event just occurred just in the past few days," Colton said. "Over the weekend, four new kittens were born.” Two of the felines from the first litter have already been adopted. The other two, one of which is the mother, still need a home, as do the new kittens.
