Raccoon Prompts 911 Calls About a Tiger Roaming Washington Heights

Salina Wang
New York police received a number of 911 calls at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. They said they saw a small tiger or similar animal in Washington Heights. When the police sent a well-equipped Emergency Service Team (ESU) to the scene, they found a large raccoon roaming the area. The raccoon was captured and sent to the Animal Care Center of New York. No one was injured during the entire process. In New York state law, raccoons sent to animal care centers must be euthanized by law. This is to prevent the spread of rabies. Raccoons are especially dangerous when infected. Many states have similar laws in place. Raccoons are a common sight in the city. NYC police did not understand why callers did not recognize the animal was a raccoon and not a tiger. NTD TV Salina Wang reporting in New York
