Snow in England Forces Farmer to Dump Milk for First Time in Almost 40 Years

Petr Svab
A farmer from Northamptonshire, England, lamented on Twitter about losing almost 1,600 gallons of milk he had to dump on Saturday, March 3, due to severe weather conditions. Uploader George Minish, 54, posted two videos showing milk pouring on the floor at the farm he works in Lowick, England, that couldn’t be collected due to the “Beast from the East” cold snap and following severe weather. “I milked my first cow at age 7 … I’m rising 55 now … Until today, I have never dumped a tank of milk because it couldn’t be collected … my heart is broken,” Minish said. The emergency prompted changes in regulations on milk collection. The UK Department for Transport temporarily relaxed rules for drivers involved in collection of raw milk from farms, the UK Department for Transport said in a statement. The daily driving limit was extended from 10 hours to 11 hours and the daily duty limit from 11 hours to 12 hours. Credit: George Minish via Storyful
