Texas Man Confronts School Superintendent Who Bullied Him in Junior High

Celeste Li
A Texas man dropped in at a school board meeting to confront the man who had bullied him in high school—and was now the school district superintendent. Greg Barrett was bullied constantly throughout high school because of his name—Greg Gay. He was bullied throughout junior high and high school in Katy, Texas. When Barrett heard reports that bullying was still happening on the Katy High campus, he decided to act. “I just figured it was time to say something,” he told the Houston Chronicle. On Monday, March 19, Barrett stepped up to the lectern at a Katy Independent School District meeting and called out his attacker. Barrett accused Dr. Lance Hindt, now superintendent of the Katy Independent School District, of one particularly brutal attack in Junior High. Barrett also said he had a corroborating witness. Dr. Hindt denied the taking part in the attack in a written statement issued the next day. Barrett isn’t looking for revenge. He told the Chronicle he doesn’t want to see Hindt lose his job or suffer any other penalties. Barrett would, though like an apology. “People change. They do stupid stuff when they’re young,” Barrett said. “I just want him to acknowledge it, say he’s sorry and make some changes so this doesn’t continue to happen.”
