‘Walking Dead’ actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan to adopt bonded donkey, emu

Mark Liu
A rescued donkey and emu named Jack and Diane who are "very bonded" will get to stay together forever. Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan on “The Walking Dead,” heard about their story and offered to adopt the pair. Jack and Diane were rescued from Kershaw, South Carolina when their owner moved away and left a number of animals behind. The North Carolina group that originally rescued the animals said they became frantic and cried when they were separated. Jack even attacked another donkey that got too close to Diane. The rescue group knew it was true love. "We realized today the donkey and the emu need to stay together. They are very bonded," posted Carolina Waterfowl Rescue on Facebook on Nov. 6. The inseparable donkey and emu soon went viral, and the rescue group said they received more than 2,000 inquiries about the adorable animals. Meanwhile, the group posted many photos and videos of the pair on social media. “The response has been overwhelming,” said the group on Facebook. “We have had inquiries from London, Canada, France and several other countries where this story has gone viral. ... Our phone system is crashing, our email system is crashing.” However, Carolina Waterfowl Rescue said the donkey and emu were unable to be housed with any other donkeys or emus due to their strong attachment, making it more challenging to find a suitable home. When Morgan read about Jack and Diane, he couldn't resist offering them a home, and the group said he was a perfect fit. "Hey there... read the story... if you are looking for a forever home for jack and diane? Happy to take them, and keep them together at our farm. They would be a welcome addition to our menagerie of happy creatures," wrote Morgan on Twitter. Morgan welcomed the pair to his spacious Hudson Valley, New York farm on Tuesday, Dec. 4. "They are perfectly happy together," said the rescue group. Morgan is also well-known for his roles on television shows such as "The Good Wife," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Supernatural," but some may not know of his affinity for furry creatures. "A quick update to those interested," wrote Morgan on Twitter. "J&D made it HOME. They spent the day exploring new digs... and I just tucked them in to bed with some berries for Diane, apple for Jack. Family is in love with its newest members. Thanks to @waterfowlrescue the world needs more of you." A few days earlier, Morgan posted a photo of himself with two other donkeys, proving his love for animals was definitely genuine. Carolina Waterfowl Rescue told the Charlotte Observer that it's currently attempting to raise $150,000 to move from an 11-acre site to a new 50-acre location, where it will be easier to house large animals. "We are so overwhelmed by the support we are receiving and for everyone who loves and helps rescue animals," wrote the rescue group.
