"I'll rise unafraid": Mom leaps into action when daughter freezes on stage

Celeste Li
Video of a mother jumping in to help her 10-year-old daughter who froze on stage has gone viral. Makayla Ferrell was singing the song "Rise Up" by Andra Day when her voice faded partially through the song due to her stage fright, Cleveland19 reported. Her mother was seated in the audience at the time. "I just forgot because I was nervous to, like, even sing anymore," Makayla said. That's when her mother, Shaye Washington, jumped in to join her on stage and starting singing the lyrics. "I don't want her to feel defeated. So, that's when I just stepped in to help her going," Washington told Cleveland19. Her daughter then found her voice again and finished the song together with her mother. "I think she does everything for me. She gets everything for me," Makayla said. "Sometimes I feel like I don't say, don't act like I'm thankful, but I want to be more thankful and thank her." The song is special for the pair, as it helped them persevere through Washington's divorce and to transition through their move from Georgia to Colorado.
