French Swimmer Begins Attempt to Swim Across Pacific Ocean

Ben Lecomte dropped into the water Tuesday at Choshi, Japan. The long distance swimmer has embarked on his attempt to become the first person to swim across the Pacific Ocean. The 5,500 mile effort is expected to take five to six months, with Lecomte swimming 8 hours a day. His route to San Francisco will take through the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an are 3 times the size of France.
